Beautifully Captured by One Photographer

If you’re looking for a Priston Mill wedding photographer, congratulations, you’ve chosen one of Somerset’s most beautiful wedding venues.

Whether you’re saying your vows in the intimate Watermill or celebrating with family and friends in the spectacular Tythe Barn, Priston Mill is a venue I’ve loved photographing for over 13 years.

I’m Derryn, a Somerset wedding photographer based just outside Bath, specialising in relaxed, natural wedding photography that lets you enjoy your day rather than spending it posing.

I’m also a hybrid photographer, which means I capture both your wedding photography and highlight film myself. Instead of hiring a separate photographer and videographer, it’s just me documenting your day from morning preparations through to the dance floor. Couples love how relaxed this feels, and because everything is created by one person, your photographs and film tell one beautiful, consistent story.

Having photographed weddings at Priston Mill for well over a decade, I know exactly how to make the most of everything this incredible venue has to offer.

Why Choose Priston Mill for Your Wedding?

There are plenty of beautiful wedding venues across Somerset, but Priston Mill has something that few others can offer.

It’s actually two completely different venues in one location.

Whether you’re planning an intimate celebration or a larger wedding, you can choose the setting that suits your day perfectly while still enjoying the beautiful countryside surroundings that make Priston Mill so special.

As someone who photographs weddings here regularly, it’s one of the reasons I love returning. Every wedding feels completely different while still having that unmistakable Priston Mill charm.

The Watermill

The Watermill is perfect for couples planning a smaller, relaxed wedding.

The historic stone building is full of character and feels wonderfully cosy without ever feeling cramped. If the weather is kind, outdoor ceremonies take place in the gardens beside the mill, creating one of the prettiest ceremony settings anywhere in Somerset.

The gardens, stream and surrounding countryside all become part of your wedding day, creating beautiful opportunities for natural photographs without needing to travel anywhere.

Morning preparations also happen on site, making the day feel wonderfully relaxed from the very beginning.

Priston Mill Tythe Barn

The Tythe Barn

If you’re planning a larger celebration, the Tythe Barn is an incredible space.

The vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and huge stone walls create an amazing atmosphere while still feeling warm and welcoming.

One of my favourite features is the mezzanine gallery overlooking the ceremony space. It allows me to photograph your ceremony from above, capturing moments that simply aren’t possible at most venues.

Afterwards, the gardens are only a few steps outside, making family photographs quick and relaxed before everyone returns to celebrating.

Although Priston Mill doesn’t offer overnight accommodation, there are plenty of fantastic hotels and guest houses nearby, making it easy for both you and your guests.

Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Priston Mill

Every venue has its own personality.

Priston Mill is one of those places where everything flows naturally.

You’re never walking long distances between different parts of the day, meaning you spend more time with your guests and less time waiting around for photographs.

The changing light throughout the venue is beautiful too.

Soft window light fills the preparation rooms during the morning, the ceremony spaces photograph beautifully whatever the weather, and as the evening arrives the surrounding countryside provides some incredible golden hour opportunities.

Because I know the venue so well, I also know when and where the best light appears throughout the day, allowing us to create beautiful portraits without keeping you away from your guests for long.

My Favourite Photo Locations at Priston Mill

One of the biggest advantages of choosing a photographer who knows Priston Mill well is knowing all the little locations that many couples never discover.

The Stream & Sunset Field

Just beyond the stream is a beautiful open field that catches the evening sun perfectly. If you’re happy to pop on a pair of wellies when needed, it’s one of my favourite places anywhere in Somerset for golden hour portraits.

The Mezzanine Gallery

The Tythe Barn’s balcony creates stunning overhead ceremony photographs that give you a completely different perspective of one of the biggest moments of your day.

The Gardens

The gardens are ideal for relaxed family photographs because they’re only moments away from the drinks reception. Nobody disappears for ages and everyone gets back to celebrating quickly.

The Watermill Gardens

Outdoor ceremonies beside the Watermill are simply beautiful, and afterwards the surrounding gardens provide gorgeous natural backdrops for relaxed couple portraits.

The Play Park

If you’re up for something a little different, the play park has become the setting for some wonderfully fun photographs over the years. They always end up being favourites because they’re completely natural and full of laughter.

Insider Tips for Your Priston Mill Wedding

After photographing weddings here for over a decade, there are a few things I always recommend.

Plan time for sunset

Around 10 to 15 minutes is all we need to create some incredible countryside portraits without missing much of your evening.

Trust the Priston Mill team

If you’re planning a sparkler exit, they’re brilliant at organising guests quickly and efficiently, making it one of the best ways to finish your wedding day.

Don’t worry about the weather

Rain never spoils a wedding at Priston Mill. Both venues have beautiful natural light and plenty of character, so we’ll still create stunning photographs whatever the forecast.

Keep your timeline relaxed

One of the best things about Priston Mill is that everything is close together. A relaxed schedule means you’ll spend more time enjoying your day and less time watching the clock.

Photography & Highlight Films

One of the biggest advantages of booking me is that I don’t just photograph your wedding.

I also create beautiful cinematic highlight films, capturing all those little moments that photographs alone can’t tell.

Because I’m filming alongside taking photographs throughout the day, your gallery and highlight film naturally complement one another.

There are no competing cameras, no separate videographer directing you, and no different editing styles.

Just one photographer telling your story naturally from beginning to end.

Frequently Asked Questions About Priston Mill Wedding Photography

Most couples choose 8–10 hours to capture morning prep through to the evening celebrations.

Natural, documentary and editorial photography complement the venue’s warm, rustic aesthetics.

Yes. I’ve photographed weddings in both venues over many years and know how to make the most of each space, whatever the weather.

Yes – all photography packages include the option to add a short wedding highlight film.

The barns offer beautiful indoor spaces with soft window light, perfect for indoor portraits and candid coverage.

Usually no more than 10 to 15 minutes at a time. I’d much rather you spend your day celebrating than standing in front of my camera.

I generally work alone at weddings and have no problem covering all the important parts of your day. The obvious advantage of having a second photographer is that you get coverage from different angles and vantage points. I am able to provide a second photographer if required.

Absolutely. Having worked at the venue for many years, I know the team well, and they’re fantastic at keeping everything running smoothly throughout the day.

Once we have confirmed that I am available, I like to arrange a little meet up so we can formally get to know each other and discuss any questions you may have. This can also be done over Video Call or on the phone if you live further away. If, after the meeting, you decide that I am the photographer for you, then great!

All I would need is a 25% deposit and I’m yours for the day.
